Africamix Collective Volunteer Pledge For Needy Children To Commence World Tour In California
SACRAMENTO, Calif., - Africamix, a volunteer-based traveling arts and music festival organized to help combat child abuse and neglect, will commence its tour in California in June 2002 and travel from there to 18 countries around the world.
According to Africamix spokesperson, Beatrice Gatebuke, the multicultural, two-day festivals are designed to raise global consciousness and funding for the prevention of child abuse and neglect in black communities. The touring festival will benefit local non-profit and non-governmental organizations active in providing residential services and therapeutic foster care for abandoned, abused and neglected children in the countries hosting the event.
"The arts and music festivals are appropriate for all ages", Gatebuke said. "They provide a forum for guest speakers to promote public awareness of the ongoing impact of child abuse as well as the opportunity to thank many of the non-profit organizations who dedicate their energies and efforts in helping needy children every day."
Hosts for the Africamix 2002 tour include the U.S. in June, Canada in July, England and France in August, Uganda and Rwanda in September, Kenya and Ethiopia in October, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana in November and the DR Congo in December. Hosting countries during 2003 are Mali and Madagascar in April, Senegal, Sierra-Leone and Nigeria in May, and South Africa in June.
The touring festival encourages voluntary worker participation in the many communities and countries it will visit.
