Caldera Announces a New Residency Opportunity
for Artists and Writers

Located on the shore of a cerulean blue lake formed in the cinder cone of an extinct volcano in the Central Cascades, Caldera offers residencies of one to five weeks to artists and writers during the fall, winter and spring.

Founded in 1996, Caldera is a nonprofit interdisciplinary arts organization committed to fostering creativity, provoking experimentation and stimulating a deeper appreciation for the environment. Our 90-acre site on the shore of Blue Lake is surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest and is located 17 miles west of Sisters, Oregon.

FACILITIES
Caldera provides a private live/work space to each artist or writer who is accepted for a residency. All of Caldera's five A-frame cottages are equipped with a sleeping loft, kitchenette, bathroom and live/work area. At this time, our spaces are not designed to accommodate artists working on projects that require intensive studio facilities or equipment. Please contact the Director of Adult Programs to discuss your needs and learn more about the kind of support Caldera offers. Laundry facilities are located on-site. A supermarket is 15 miles away.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
Caldera supports the creative process and there is no expectation that resident artists produce a specific product. However, residents who stay more than 14 days are strongly encouraged to give an informal presentation about their work sometime during their stay. Public outreach activities could include an interview with the local paper, a workshop in a public school, a brown bag lunch or a public reading or talk at Caldera or at another venue in Central Oregon. We will work with each artist to organize an event that will meet his or her needs and interests.

ADMISSIONS
All applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by an admissions panel, which includes staff and distinguished professionals in the literary and visual arts. In addition, Caldera will work with guest curators to offer special residencies by invitation.

The next application deadline is December 15, 2001
