• Hidden Talent - Uncut, Uncensored
Opening Friday, October 8th at 6:00 pm at ArtSpace
AIGA Seattle is hosting Hidden Talent, a forum for undiscovered designers, photographers, new media artists and illustrators.  Hidden Talent is an opportunity for artists to share their experiences, display their work, critque the industry and impart their raw attitude to the rest of us.
AIGA members: Free, Non-Members: $10, Student Non-Members: $5.
This show will be on display October 5th-13th.

• Figure Drawing to Start Again on October 13th!
The ArtSpace Resource Center will begin another season of Figure Drawing.  The sessions will be held every Wednesday night from 6:30 - 9 pm, starting October 13th.  These are open to everyone, with a minimal charge of $6.  The sessions include quick 1-2 minute poses, as well as longer poses.  So sharpen your figure drawing skills on Wednesdays at ArtSpace!

A look at the roles that corporate art programs play beyond the familiar one of aquiring art.  What does the presence of a company art program do for artists, for business and for art itself?  Are there ways to support art that go beyond collecting?  What does a corporate program do toward encouraging art awareness among its employees, and perhaps more sales in the community?  Participates in the roundtable: Michael Klein, Microsoft art Curator; Jim McDonald, corporate art curator at SafeCo; and Peggy Weiss, director of the Seafirst Gallery.

Know Your Rights: Legal Issues for Artists, A Public Art Workshop

This all day workshop will be devoted to an understanding of artists rights
and responsibilities in the field of public art. Experienced artists, arts
administrators and attorneys will present a variety of past cases and legal
information including:

* What to look for in a commission contract
* An explanation of the Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990 (VARA)
* Current information about copyright law
* Insurance responsibilities of the artists and commissioning entity
* Information about upcoming public art commissions

• Seattle Arts Commission and City Housing Office Present a Citywide
Forum on Affordable Live/Work Housing for Artists
Friday, October 29th, 12 noon - 6 pm
Town Hall, 1119-8th (8th and Seneca)
Seattle Mayor Paul Schell and Councilmembers Peter Steinbrueck and Nick Licata invite you to a half day live/work space forum.  The forum will focus on the tools necessary to preserve and create affordable housing options for artists and others who need unique living space to accomodate a home-based business.  Speakers will present models of successful live/work projects around the country and provide resources for those interested in live/work space.  Artists are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to voice their needs and to learn about present and future live/work opportunities.  Admission is free. Registration is not required.

AFFORDABLE STUDIOS FOR ARTISTS AVAILABLE:

• Studio 4 at Seattle Center offers affordable studios for artists to hold classes, workshops, meetings, or gallery shows.  Hourly rates are $6. There are 6 rooms, 5 with natural light.  One room has a sink with running water.  For more information or to schedule a tour, write cyndi@tpsonline.org or call Studio 4 at 206-770-0370.  Studio 4 at Seattle Center is managed by Theatre Puget Sound.  We are located on the 4th floor of the Seattle Center House.

Studio 4 at Seattle Center is also seeking volunteers to tour its facility and provide input regarding equipment needs.  Our goal is to encourage a broader range of artists to utilize this affordable studio space.  If you are an artist and able to devote 2-3 hours for a tour followed by a discussion, please email cyndi@tpsonline.org or call Cyndi Mudge at 206-770-0370.
