New American Paintings
New American Paintings is a bi-monthly regional "juried exhibition in print." Current entry fee $15, no printing fee if accepted. Juried by prominent curators. Film/Video/Media

Seattle Independent Film & Video Consortium has a huge listing of opportunities for film, video, and media arts. Rather than duplicating efforts, NW Arts encourages you to visit the SIFVC site for complete and very active listings.

Industry Night at the Alibi Room is on the last Tuesday of every month at 7pm, (Seattle). See film and network. People from WMPC, SIFVC, WIF and 911 all get together and "talk shop." All are welcome, including artists from other disciplines.

Seattle's free monthly guide to literary events, including a complete listing of opportunities for writers: contests, grants, calls. Available at most local bookstores and libraries.

Richard Hugo House
Provides a directory of creative writing teachers & classes, opportunities for writers to participate in programs, meeting & performance space, and a resource library. INFO: 206/322-7030, (web site is in the works).


Publications in Print That List Opportunities

Art Calendar is a monthly business magazine for visual artists, with tons of listings for shows and other opportunities around the USA, plus articles and other information. This web site gives subscription rates, plus info about: buying mailing lists; the International Registry of Artists and Artworks™; getting your slides/resume packet reviewed for $25 before you send it to galleries; and other services.

"Artist Call" Newsletter this is a subscription publication out of Port Orchard, WA, with listings for visual artists.

The following is a list of opportunities that repeat each year.


Artist Trust Fellowships
Deadline is in early summer of each year, (June 12 for 1998); $5,000 unrestricted grants for creative research and development - WA State artists. Fellowships are awarded on a 2-year cycle: Dance, Design, Theater and Visual Arts in 1998. Music, Media, Literature and Crafts in 1999. Artist Trust Gap Grants
Deadline is late winter of each year, (Feb. 27 for 1998), for up to $1,200 in support for individual artists' projects - WA State artists. (206) 467-8734.

Bellevue Art Museum Pacific Northwest Annual
Deadline is in the spring of each year, (April 17 for 1998), for this regional juried show held at BAM each summer. (425) 454-3322.

Betty Bowan Award

Bumpershoot

King County Special Projects Grants
Open to King County, WA projects & artists, all media.
Up to $15,000 for "innovative arts and heritage programs in all disciplines, and unique collaborations by individual artists, heritage specialists, organizations of all shapes and sizes, and by community service organizations using arts and heritage in their programming."
